We went to several Portugal beaches whilst on holiday. Both me and my husband Jeremie love the beach. We love to lie in the sun, snorkel, swim, play bat & ball. Generally have lots of the fun at the beach!
We went to Manta Rota & Altura mostly as they were close to where we were staying. Jeremie and I also went to the beach at Cacela Velha. Click here to see the blog post with info & photos.
I've got to say, the Portugal beaches are beautiful. The sand is beautifully fine and soft. I'm not really used to it as even though we live in the gorgeous South of France, a lot of the beaches here are pebbles or rocks. So it was lovely to feel the sand between my toes!
As the beaches were so lovely, the weather was so hot and the Algarve is such a popular tourist destination, it was very obvious why the beaches were so busy. I'm glad they were huge as there were so many people. I've never seen so many people on one beach before.
My favourite time to go to the beach was in the evenings, at around 5pm. It was still lovely and warm, but it wasn't too hot. People started to head home too so we had more space and less people around us. It was so much fun playing bat & ball on the sand at sunset and is one of my favourite memories from our holiday.
I have to say, we didn't swim or snorkel much as the water was full of seaweed. I can't complain as that's nature for you, but neither of us liked the feeling of it on our legs. Which is a shame as I usually love swimming in the Ocean. Oh well.
Saying that, if you're looking for a cheap beach destination for your next holiday, I would recommend Portugal and the Algarve.
