A morning in Mougins – France

Rosie Andre

My husband and I went away for a couple of days last week. We drove to Mougins which is a town around 15 mins drive from Cannes. The day we were there was the first day of the Cannes Film Festival. We heard several people talking about it and saying the Celebrities were at Cannes for lunch and would be in Mougins for dinner. We didn't stay long enough to see any though.

Mougins is a cute little place. The town itself could be anywhere in the South of France with its cafes, art galleries and small streets. But you could tell it was close to posh & expensive cities by the properties surrounding it. We looked in the estate agent windows and saw one property for €15 million!! I mean, it looked stunning, but 15 million euros! Wowzer!

We had a wander around the streets looking into the art galleries and shops then stopped for lunch at La Gaudinade on rue de l'Eglise. I had the lobster salad and my husband had the carpaccio of tuna, both of which were spectacular. Super delicious and around €25 each. Along with that we had a bottle of the Château Barbebelle rosé wine which was delicious.

I loved our morning visiting Mougins and would love to go back. It was a cute little place where you only really need one day to look around, but could easily spend a couple of days there, taking in the French atmosphere. I was happy we went in May time as I imagine that in the height of summer it would be rammed and far too busy to enjoy it.
