La Citadelle of Saint Tropez is situated on a small hill behind the town and port. I came here when visiting Saint Tropez on a solo day trip. Read my other blog post here.
La Citadelle is a little walk away from the centre of town but it is very easy to access. There is a road leading up to the top of the hill which has spectacular views over the famous French Riviera town.
Inside La Citadelle is the town's maritime museum, featuring lots of rooms with artifacts, information, photographs and items. All of these rooms explain the history of Saint Tropez in a very easy-to-understand way. There are several rooms with videos and sounds to accompany the items and text.
I didn't read too much about the history of Saint Tropez as that doesn't really interest me. What does interest me however were the views and the architecture.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed walking around the maritime museum, but I didn't particularly read anything. How bad is that?! Oh well!
If you do head up to La Citadelle and go on a small dirt path around the left hand side, there are great views up there, but don't go all the way around like I did. There is nothing around there and it's a dead end.
