Eze is a stunning old hilltop town situated between Nice and Monaco on the South East coast of France. I came here for a little day trip on my own in September and I have no idea why it has taken me 5 years of living in Provence to come here!
The town is only accessible by foot, so you need to be able to walk up a bit of a hill. But once you are there it is so stunning and worth it. There are lots of old streets bursting with colourful flowers. Cute restaurants & cafes with outdoor seating sheltered by trees & plants. There are several shops selling jewellery & souvenirs. Some streets have small art galleries too which are free to enter and showcase different styles of art.
The main attraction is the Botanical Gardens and the views from up there. You can see right the way over to Corsica as well as the beaches & houses below. Just look at that view!!
La Chèvre d'Or is a 5* luxury hotel in Eze which is breathtaking! There are panoramic views, incredible bedrooms, amazing restaurants, an outdoor pool. What more could you ask for? And if that wasn't enough, Walt Disney apparently spent a lot of time here, and it was his idea to turn it from a restaurant into a hotel. If it's good enough for Walt Disney, then it's good enough for me!
I parked at the park & ride for €5 for the day which included a bus into town and back again (with stunning views). It also included entrance to the Botanical Gardens which is usually €6 per person. So if you head this way, I would 100% park there. It's cheaper than anywhere else and you get your money back with the entrance to the gardens. You also get discounts at certain shops & restaurants.
"Medieval City" --- "Village of art & gastronomy"
Walking through Eze was a bit of a maze if I'm honest. Lots of small streets going up and down in different directions. It was hard to be sure which way I had already been, and which streets I had missed.
As I said above, lots of outdoor seating areas for restaurants which was really cute. There were also lots of stone buildings, courtyards, flowers, galleries & shops. A lovely place to spend a day wandering around exploring!
This beautiful church is kind of in the city, yet kind of not. It's on the hillside as you walk up into town. However it is not facing the sea, it faces inland.
It's a beautiful old building with the exteriors painted yellow tones. The interior is even more spectacular with ornate designs and painted ceilings. It's quite a small church but there are benches available to sit on to rest or pray. It's quite a cute little place and maybe even one of my faves!
Eze Botanical Gardens
The Botanical Gardens in Eze was my favourite part of the town. You're right at the top of the hill looking over the rooftops, the beaches down below and over the Mediterranean Sea to Corsica.
There are different sections to the gardens with benches, water features, statues and a huge array of different plants.
It was quite a peaceful place to come and relax if you found a quiet area away from the crowds of tourists. From up here you could see the hotel too which looked beautiful!
